Learn how to use Ask AI to uncover deal insights, accelerate follow-ups, and generate high-impact sales assets

Updated this week

Overview

Scratchpad's Ask AI helps your team stay aligned, move faster, and take action with confidence - by turning your Salesforce data, notes, emails, and call transcripts into real-time insights and content.

Ask anything - like uncovering key risks in a deal, clarifying stakeholder involvement, or pulling highlights from a recent call - and get answers instantly, without the busywork.

Ask AI can also accelerate your workflow by generating sales assets on demand. Draft follow-up emails, create handoff notes, build ROI summaries, or even grade calls - all in a single click.

Using Ask AI

To get started, click Ask AI from any call or record in Scratchpad.

From there, you can ask questions about the call or record, or generate follow-up emails, summaries, handoff docs, and more - all in just a few clicks.

Ask AI can also reference uploaded files, using this knowledge to craft accurate, contextual responses tailored to your deals and accounts.

Please note, while Ask AI is available on all record types, it can only query your calls when used on Account, Opportunity, Contact, or Lead records.

Creating prompts

In addition to asking ad-hoc questions, you can create and save prompts to streamline your workflows.

Prompts are reusable inputs that help you generate consistent, high-quality content with just one click. Your most-used prompts will be pinned for easy access.

  1. Click Ask AI from any call or record

  2. Click Prompts to create a new prompt or view existing ones

  3. Define your prompt and test the response for accuracy

  4. Click Save, the prompt will now be available for reuse

Please note, saved prompts are editable by the prompt owner or Scratchpad Admins.

Sharing chats

Easily share a snapshot of any AI conversation to generate a secure, read-only view - perfect for sharing insights, follow-ups, or next steps with your team.

Need to update or revoke access? Refresh the content or delete the link anytime to keep full control of what’s shared.

  1. Navigate to any thread within Ask AI

  2. Click Share in the top-right corner

  3. Click Create link

  4. Click Copy link to share it with teammates

    • The link will include a snapshot of the conversation at that moment, messages added later won’t appear

  5. Click Update link content to refresh the snapshot, or Delete shared link to revoke access at any time

Please note, viewers must be signed into Scratchpad to access the chat, and shared threads are read-only to protect context and privacy.

Upload files as context

Ask AI can use uploaded files - like playbooks, customer docs, or contracts - to provide richer, more accurate responses.

There are three places where you can upload files, each with different visibility and use cases.

Workspace

Great for team-wide resources like playbooks, objection-handling guides, and product one-pagers.

  1. Navigate to Settings in Scratchpad

  2. Click Files under Data

  3. Click Upload File and select your desired file

  4. Files are private by default, click the ••• to unprivate and share org-wide

Record

Great for deal-specific files like customer onboarding docs and mutual action plans.

  1. Open a Salesforce record (e.g. Opportunity or Account) in Scratchpad

  2. Click Documents from the sidebar

  3. Click the + button to Upload File, or drag and drop your file

  4. Files uploaded to a record are automatically visible to anyone with access to the record and cannot be made private

Ask AI

Great for one-off uploads like usage data, call summaries, and discovery notes.

Files uploaded here are only available in that thread and won’t appear elsewhere.

  1. Click Ask AI from any record or call

  2. Within the chat input, click the 📎 to upload a file

  3. Select the @ icon to reference files from the workspace or record in your chat thread

FAQ

What file types are supported for upload?

We support the following file types:

  • txt

  • md

  • pdf

  • xlsx

  • docx

  • pptx

Non-text files are converted into text. We accept larger file sizes, but if the converted text exceeds 100KB, the upload will fail.

If this happens, try reducing the file size or splitting it into smaller uploads.
