Learn all about Tiles and Expanded View!

Updated over a week ago

You jump into Salesforce, scroll and search through complex page layouts, and hope not to miss what you’re looking for. Wouldn’t it be better if you could focus on the information itself - instead of the process of finding it?

Imagine if all the information you need was right at the top of your screen, making it easy to find what you’re looking for and move on to the next task. Scratchpad Tiles are designed to help you create shortcuts to your most important fields and data in Salesforce. Now, you can quickly find the data you need for prospecting, seamlessly follow sales methodologies, and inspect deals to help inform accurate forecasting. It’s a better way to focus on your active deals instead of wasting time searching for information.

Let's walk through the tiles you can create so you and your team can easily execute and manage the sales process.

Overview Tile

Everyone gets their own Overview Tile on every expanded view of all their records. This is a tile you can customize however you'd like. It cannot be shared with anyone else, and no one else can see your overview tile.

❓ Which Fields appear in the Overview Tile?

→ By default, we use the fields configured in SFDC Compact Layout. The Caveat here is that Compact Layout is not configurable for Custom Objects. This means the Overview Tile for Custom Objects will, by default, only show the Name field.

Create a Tile

  1. Open your expanded view and select "All" Tile

  2. Select + New Tile

  3. Name your Tile and click out to save. (Pro Tip: We ❤️ emojis! They make it easier to distinguish different tiles).

  4. Select the gear icon and click on Fields & Related Lists

↕️ Move fields up/down as needed by dragging and dropping from the waffle icon.

  5. Your Tile saves automatically and can now be surfaced on subsequent records on that object.

Create Organizational Tiles

If you find that a Tile can be helpful for your team or your entire organization as, you can make your Tile 'Organizational'. Any Tile you create can be an Organizational Tile - you simply have to click on the person icon and change the selection to "Organization Tile."

Update tiles:

Action ('Create') tiles:

Action tiles, which create something new (versus simply updating a field on an account/contact/opportunity, etc), can also be created and changed to 'organization-wide' in Scratchpad:

  • Click the expanded view icon in pipeline on the object in question.

  • Click 'All' on expanded view and scroll down to the 'Action' list

  • Select the 'new' workflow that you'd like to create

  • Select 'new tile' underneath that action

  • Click on the gear icon that pops up on the new tile and select the desired fields to appear on that tile

  • Click on the person icon and switch 'personal tile' to 'organizational tile'

  • Once back on the expanded view, click on 'All' to surface the various action tiles available.

  • Click on the toggle next to the parent action tile; a list of child action tiles should surface, including the one you created!

  • Hover over the child action tile you created and on the far right, you'll see a pin; select that pin, which will pin this new tile to the top of the expanded view

Clone a Tile

Has someone in your org shared an org-wide or role-based tile with you but you wish you could make it your own? Maybe you want to change the order of the fields to better match your flow? Maybe you want to add a couple fields? Heck, maybe you like adding emojis to your tile names for the visual aspect? In your expanded view, you can easily "Clone" a tile that has been shared with you, rename it, edit it, and pin it for access later.

Create Records via Tiles

Creating records has never been easier when in the Expanded View of your records! You can easily create opportunities, accounts, contacts, leads, activities/tasks, and any other custom objects you've had added to Scratchpad!

  1. Open up the Expanded View of any record!

  2. Navigate to your ALL Tile.

  3. Scroll down to the ACTIONS at the bottom.

  4. Select the action/creation of your choosing.

  5. You will now be prompted to fill out necessary fields to create your record.

💪 Notice that record related fields are auto-filled out for you! Talk about EASY! 💥

🪄 Pin your action tile if it is one you will be using frequently so it is readily available to you any time you open the expanded view of a record!

Related Lists

Related Lists allow you to see both a record and its related Salesforce records in one view.

Add to an Existing Tile

  1. Access the Expanded View of any record.

  2. On the "Overview" tile or any tile you own (Personal or Shared) select the gear icon on the right

  3. Select Related and bring in the related list you would like to see

  4. After the related list has been selected, scroll to the bottom of the Tile to view the related list

  5. You can click on these records to view and customize additional information 💪

Create a New Tile for Related Lists

  1. Go to the "All" Tile

  2. Select "+ New Tile" at the bottom of the drop-down and name your Tile

  3. Follow the same steps above!

👉 Remember, Contacts are related to Accounts and Accounts are Related to Opportunities. This means if you're trying to pull in a related list for Contacts on an Opportunity, you will have to use Contact Roles instead.

❓ Why am I getting the error "Coming Soon - xx creation is not supported yet" when trying to create from related lists?

→ This means that the custom object you are trying to access is not enabled in your Scratchpad instance. Learn more here!

❓ What determines what populates in the "related list" options when customizing a tile?

→ Any related list that exists in your Salesforce instance (i.e. "notes", "notes and attachments", "activity history", "contacts", etc) will show up as an option in Scratchpad. If the related list you want is not populating, please reach out to [email protected].

❓ How does Scratchpad determine which 10 records in a related list appear on a Tile? Is it most recently created? Recently viewed? Random?

→ For related list records, the ordering from the related list definition determines it. The definition is defined in the Salesforce layout settings.

Add Text to Your Tiles!

Add Help Text on Fields within Tiles

Add Help Text to your organization's Fields to provide your team with a helpful descriptions and ensure accurate data ✅

🚨 Users can view the field-level help text by hovering over the Info icon next to the field

→ Help Text can be defined for standard and custom fields on all detail and edit pages where the field displays

Pin Tiles

Before, sales reps would need to search and surface the relevant fields in Salesforce to input up-to-date information. Now, reps can access shortcuts to the most important set of fields at a glance by pinning Tiles! This better way will increase data hygiene and lead to more accurate forecasting!

  1. Open the Expanded View on any record.

  2. Navigate to the tile labeled ALL to open the dropdown menu of all of your tiles

  3. Decide which tiles you'd like to access at the top of your expanded view and select the small pin icon 📌 associated with your choice of tile. *Easily hide tiles you don't use often by deselecting the pin icon*
