Learn how to create and manage custom fields that are only available in Scratchpad

Before today, you could only use fields in Scratchpad that were already set up in Salesforce. Now, you can create custom fields exclusive to Scratchpad!

Whether you're a manager adding private notes, an account executive working with a sales engineer, or an operations person tracking extra data, custom fields let you tailor Scratchpad to your needs. Say goodbye to exporting data to spreadsheets and enjoy a seamless, integrated experience right in Scratchpad.

Creating Custom Scratchpad Fields


In Pipeline

The field will automatically be added as the last column in your current Grid View

  1. Navigate to Views

  2. Open a Grid View, select Fields from the menu bar

  3. Click + New Scratchpad field towards the bottom

In Settings

  1. Navigate to the Gear Icon in the bottom-left corner of your Scratchpad homepage

  2. Select Scratchpad fields under Workspace, then click + Add

Customize the Field

  1. Name the field, must be unique across your organization

  2. Choose your desired field Type

    • Text

    • Number

    • Date

    • Checkbox

  3. Toggle on Make Private if you'd like the field to be hidden from others

  4. Click Save

Now when you select Fields within a Grid View or Tile, you'll have the option to view and select Salesforce and/or Scratchpad fields. Scratchpad fields will be marked with the Scratchpad logo. You can Filter, Sort, and Highlight on Scratchpad fields.

Managing Custom Scratchpad Fields


Users can manage fields that they own. Admins can manage all public fields.

  1. Navigate to the Gear Icon in the bottom-left corner of your Scratchpad homepage

  2. Select Scratchpad fields under Workspace

  3. Choose the Object you'd like to manage fields for

  4. Click the ••• to the right of the field to Edit or Remove

Are Private fields visible on shared Views and Tiles?

No, Private fields are hidden from other users even when added to shared Views and Tiles

Is there a character limit on Text fields?

Yes, there is a 10k character limit on Text fields

Do Scratchpad fields support Advanced Filters?

Not today
